THE ROLE
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for One Omaha’s staff, fundraising, programming, advocacy, partnerships, and public relations. Working in tandem with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director also ensures successful implementation and progress of the organization’s strategic plan and annual goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Fundraising + Stakeholder Development – 50% of time
- Update and refine the organization’s fund development plan, including operational + programmatic grants, sponsorships, individual donations, and earned income
- Cultivating relationships with foundations, corporations, individual donors, and other stakeholders
- Plan and execute annual fundraising event
- Ensuring grant applications convey the organization’s mission and programs for local, state, federal, and national funding opportunities
- Ensure grant deadlines, requirements, compliance, and reporting needs are met
- Foster strategic relationships with partners including municipal staff, elected officials, developers, neighborhood associations, and other stakeholders
Programming + Public Relations – 30% of time
- Address a range of strategic issues including enhancing organizational effectiveness and integrity, providing staff leadership, and building rapport, along with overall strategic planning for the organization
- Provide strategic oversight and oversee implementation of programming and initiatives
- Use external presence and relationships to identify opportunities for One Omaha to garner new opportunities while addressing organizations challenges
- Ensure that projects and programs are proceeding according to scope, schedule, budget, and quality standards
- Develop and implement strategies aiming to promote and fulfill the organization’s mission across programming, communications, operations, and development
- Act as the public representative of One Omaha in ways that exemplify its mission and strengthen stakeholder relationships
Administrative + Finances – 20%
- Develop and monitor annual budget
- Ensure proper fiscal record-keeping, internal control procedures, and financial reporting
- Provide strong and effective leadership by defining operational expectations, monitoring progress, providing a work environment supportive of organizational accomplishments and individual growth, and evaluating staff
- Establish practices, templates, policies, and tools to expand and mature these capabilities for the organization
- Present to the Board of Directors bimonthly at board meetings to ensure proper governance and effective implementation / monitoring of the organization’s program of work + financial health
- Recruit, hire, retain staff to ensure organizational capacity
Given the nature and scope of the Executive Director role, there will be other duties that are not listed above. The ideal candidate will enjoy a range of responsibilities and embrace unanticipated challenges as they emerge.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- Commitment and passion for One Omaha’s mission
- Strong knowledge of community organizing
- Track record of effective leadership with the ability to leverage strengths across areas
- Fundraising and grant writing experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders
- Analytical decision maker with the ability to prioritize and communicate to staff key objectives and tactics necessary to achieve organizational goals
- Confidence to take initiative and responsibility to deliver expected outcomes with minimal guidance
- Strong understanding of best practices in asset-based community development, affordable housing, project development, multimodal transportation, zoning, land use, urban design, and community engagement
- Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation
- Passion, humility, integrity, positive attitude, and self-directed
- Skills in a variety of products and platforms including Adobe Suite, Microsoft and Google products, WordPress, Canva, etc.
- Ability to work flexible hours (some early mornings, evenings, and weekends are necessary)
- A degree in related field is preferred or 3-5 years in a related industry / leadership role
COMPENSATION + BENEFITS
