A community-building speaker series empowering residents to shape the future of their neighborhoods and drive transformative growth.

From the Ground Up is One Omaha’s speaker series connecting residents who want to create change to the relationships, resources and information necessary to build strong neighborhoods.

For 2026, our focus is Neighborhood Emergency Preparedness. This covers the proactive, coordinated effort by residents to organize, train and build relationships to ensure safety before, during and after a disaster. It focuses on sharing resources, creating communication plans and training neighbors in basic first aid.

Through three engaging panel discussions, we are bringing together content experts and neighborhood organizers who have already made a difference in our community. Our goal is to equip you with the practical knowledge, resources and tools to develop preparedness plans that can be implemented when your community needs them most.

What to Expect

Through conversations engaging neighborhood leaders, content experts and attendees, you will:

  • Identify the difference between emergency preparedness and emergency response
  • Learn how government disaster response functions and identify existing gaps
  • Discover how residents can support government efforts and fill those gaps
  • Identify proactive actions residents can take in advance to prepare their communities
  • Learn from the past experiences of local neighborhood organizers
  • Identify important actions to take following an emergency event
  • Access resources and tools to build proactive care networks and local preparedness plans
